More Than a Positive Test: J’s Story

J came to our center early in the morning, sitting in the parking lot before our center opened for the day. 

She was newly pregnant, overwhelmed, and seeking an abortion. She already had 3 children of her own, and told us the timing of this pregnancy wasn’t right.

But still, she found the bravery to show up at our center early that morning.

She was greeted with warmth and compassion from the moment our doors opened, the smell of fresh-baked cookies wafting through the center.

J met with one of our client advocates, who listened with compassion and walked alongside her as they talked through her pregnancy options. Rather than pressure or judgment, J found understanding, encouragement, and the information she needed to make an informed decision. 

J also received an ultrasound that same day and saw her healthy 10 week old baby on the screen. She left our center that day with the promise that we’d be here for her every step of the way. 

J returned a few weeks later, solemn and quiet. She told her advocate that she did go to the abortion clinic and sat in the waiting room, wondering what decision she should make. She looked around the room, watching every other woman seem happy to be there, when all she felt was sick to her stomach. 

She recalled what our advocate had shared with her, and chose life for her baby.

Today, that tiny baby on the ultrasound screen is a joyful almost one year old, full of curiosity, giggles, and milestones. J still stops by from time to time, not because she's in crisis, but to spend her Baby Bucks on diapers and clothes for her baby boy and to visit her APC family. 

J’s story is a testament to what can happen when a woman is met with compassion, truth, and unwavering support. We are grateful to have been a small part of her journey and look forward to walking alongside many more families in the years to come.
